Capacity Assessments

We offer formal assessments of mental capacity in line with established legal and clinical standards, ensuring that evaluations are robust, evidence-based, and tailored to the specific decision in question. Our assessments are conducted by experienced clinicians and are designed to support individuals, families, legal professionals, healthcare providers, and organisations in situations where a person's decision-making ability needs to be formally evaluated.

Assessments may include, but are not limited to, capacity to litigate, manage financial affairs, make decisions about health and social care, consent to treatment, determine residence, manage property and affairs, or appoint representatives under relevant legal frameworks. Each assessment considers the individual's ability to understand, retain, use and weigh relevant information, and communicate their decision, in accordance with applicable legal principles and best-practice clinical guidance.

Following the assessment, we provide clear, comprehensive reports that outline the assessment process, findings, and professional opinion, suitable for use in legal proceedings, court applications, care planning, safeguarding processes, and other professional contexts where an independent capacity assessment is required.
